मन्नत का धागा / Votive Thread

कभी आपने भी अपनी किसी खास इच्छा की पूर्ति के लिए कहीं न कहीं मन्नत जरूर मांगी होगी। वो पूरी हुई हो या ना हुई हो लेकिन एक विश्वास के साथ आप ऐसी जगह गए जरूर होंगे। मेरी तो कोई मन्नत पूरी नहीं हुई आज तक, मुझे हमेशा ही ऐसा महसूस हुआ जैसे मुझसे पहले ही किसी ने मेरी मन्नत पूरी ना होने का धागा बांध दिया हो।

खैर ! ये सब घटनाएं हमारी जिंदगी का हिस्सा है, इनसे कहाँ भागें। पल्लवी इन सब बातों पर बहुत विश्वास करती हैं। बहुत धार्मिक विचारों वाली है वो, उसे कभी - कभी भगवान से शिकायत भी होती है, तो अपनी नाराजगी व्यक्त करती है वो और धमकी देती है भगवान को कि यदि तुम मेरी कोई प्रार्थना नही सुनते तो मैं क्यों आऊँ मन्दिर, नहीं आऊँगी कल से, लेकिन रोज मन्दिर जाना और भगवान से लड़ाई करना उसका नित्य नियम है। पल्लवी छोटे से गाँव में रहती थी, उसका रंग सांवले से ज्यादा गहरा था, लेकिन तीखे नैन नक्श होने के कारण वो बहुत आकर्षक लगती थी। ऊँची कद काठी लंबे बाल होने के कारण गाँव के लोग उसे भूतनी बोलते थे। पल्लवी को इन बातों से कोई फर्क नहीं पड़ता था, लेकिन पल्लवी की माँ इन बातों से बेटी के भविष्य के लिए चिंतित रहती थी।

गाँव की सबसे ज्यादा पढ़ी लिखी लड़की पल्लवी है। पढ़ाई पूरी होने के बाद वो कोई नौकरी करना चाहती थी लेकिन उसकी माँ का कहना था अकेली लड़की को वे गाँव से बाहर नहीं जाने देंगे। पल्लवी ने माँ को साथ आने के लिए कही तो माँ का कहना था तेरी नौकरी के लिए घर नहीं छोड़ सकते। वैसे भी हमारे यहाँ बेटियां नौकरी नहीं करती। पल्लवी के सभी प्रयास विफल हुए। पल्लवी की उम्र 30 वर्ष हो गई है और अब तक उसकी शादी नहीं हुई। आजकल उसकी माँ पूजा अनुष्ठान में बहुत व्यस्त है। उन्हें पल्लवी के विवाह के लिए गाँव के बाहर वाले बरगद के पेड़ के नीचे विशेष अनुष्ठान के लिए सलाह दी गाँव वालों ने। सबका मानना था कि वहाँ सभी की मन्नत पूरी होती हैं, पूजा करने के बाद पल्लवी से उस पेड़ की किसी भी डाल पर एक लाल धागा बंधवा देना। भगवान की कृपा हुई तो उसकी शादी भी हो जायेगी। छह महीने बीत गए अब तक मन्नत के धागे ने अपना काम नहीं किया। पल्लवी की माँ बहुत चिंतित है, लेकिन पल्लवी इस तरह व्यवहार करती है जैसे वो पहले से ही जानती थी कि इस सबका कुछ परिणाम नहीं निकलेगा कुछ और समय बीत जाने के बाद आखिरकार पल्लवी के लिए एक रिश्ता आया। पल्लवी के माता - पिता ने लड़के के विषय में कोई पूछताछ नहीं किये और हां करके रिश्ता पक्का कर दिये।

जल्दी में रिश्ता पक्का इसलिए कर दिये क्योंकि उन्हें पल्लवी के रंग रूप से कोई समस्या नहीं थी। उन्हें बस एक घर संभालने वाली लड़की चाहिए थी। पल्लवी इन बातों को सुनकर बहुत खुश थी और भगवान और भगवान को धन्यवाद कहकर उनका आभार व्यक्त कर रही थी। बहुत ही साधारण आयोजन में पल्लवी की शादी हुई। शादी के बाद जब पल्लवी ससुराल पहुंची तो उसे अपने भाग्य पर विश्वास नहीं हुआ। वो खुद से पूछने लगी कि क्या सच में अब मैं इस हवेली में रहूँगी। वो सच था पल्लवी की शादी बड़े घराने में हुई थी। क्योंकि पल्लवी के पति रतन को पढ़ी लिखी लड़की चाहिए थी जो जमीन जायदाद और हवेली का ख्याल रख सके। पल्लवी को अभी कुछ ही घंटे हुए यहाँ आकर, रतन बोले आओ पल्लवी तुम्हें तुम्हारे नये परिवार से मिलवाता हू। रतन कमरे की तरफ बढ़े वहाँ पलंग पर एक बच्ची बेसुध सी पड़ी थी। रतन ने आवाज़ लगाई पिंकी देखो तुम्हारी माँ आई है। पल्लवी को ये शब्द सुनकर थोड़ी हैरानी हुई, लेकिन वहीं दीवार पर एक तस्वीर टंगी थी जिसमें रतन के साथ एक औरत की तस्वीर थी। पल्लवी समझ गई कि मैं रतन की दूसरी पत्नी हूँ।

पल्लवी ने पिंकी की बहुत देखभाल की और पिंकी अब पल्लवी को एक पल भी नहीं छोड़ती। रतन पल्लवी से शादी करके बहुत खुश है क्योंकि पिंकी को उसकी माँ मिल गई दोबारा। धीरे - धीरे रतन का प्यार भी बढ़ने लगा पल्लवी के लिए। रतन चाहते हैं कि उन्हें एक बेटा हो जो जायदाद को संभाले, लेकिन पल्लवी का कहना है कि उनके लिए पिंकी ही बेटी और बेटा भी वही है। इस बात को ज्यादा समय नही बीता था कि इसी बीच रतन को खुशखबरी मिली कि पल्लवी गर्भवती है। अब पल्लवी का खास ध्यान रखा जा रहा है, पिंकी भी मां को तंग नही करती हैं। पल्लवी के प्रसव का समय नजदीक है, ऐसे में रतन ने अपनी सभी व्यवसायिक यात्राएँ स्थगित कर दी है। पल्लवी को रात में ही अस्पताल में भर्ती करना पड़ा और रतन की इच्छा पूरी हो गई, पल्लवी ने बेटे को जन्म दी जो बिल्कुल राजकुमार सा दिख रहा है। रतन ने पल्लवी का माथा चूमकर कहे कि आज हमारा परिवार पूरा हो गया, पल्लवी मुस्कुरा दी। रतन बेटे के मोह में अपना कामकाज भी भूल गए सारा दिन बस बेटे के साथ ही रहते हैं। अब तक छोटे - मोटे काम पल्लवी ने संभाल लिए थे लेकिन जो यात्राएँ स्थगित की थी वो भी तो अब करना जरूरी थी। रतन इस बात को समझ गए कि काम पर ध्यान देना जरूरी है इसलिए उन्होंने अपने सभी अधूरे कामों की सूची तैयार की और उन्हें पूरा करने में जुट गये। जो यात्राएँ स्थगित थी उनमें से कुछ ही बाकी थी। एक सप्ताह परिवार के साथ बिताने के बाद रतन अपनी अगली यात्रा पर जाने के लिए तैयारी कर रहे हैं। लेकिन इस बार पता नही क्यों पल्लवी का मन बेचैन हो रहा है। उसने ये बात रतन को नही बताई क्योंकि यात्रा को अब टाला नहीं जा सकता था। एक सप्ताह की यात्रा के लिए रतन अपने कुछ सहयोगियों के साथ चले गए। एक सप्ताह का इंतजार पल्लवी के लिए बहुत मुश्किल रहा। मुश्किल इसलिए क्योंकि इस यात्रा के लिए पल्लवी के मन में आशंका के बीज अंकुरित हो गए थे। आज का दिन खुशियों का दिन होगा यही सोचकर पल्लवी सारा दिन दरवाजे पर बैठी रहीं। रात तक रतन की राह देखते हुए पल्लवी के मन में अजीब - अजीब ख्याल आने लगे। फिर खुद को दिलासा देती कि नहीं रतन को कुछ नहीं होगा, वो जहाँ भी होंगे ठीक होंगे। लेकिन पल्लवी की आशंका व्यर्थ नही थी, दो दिन बाद उनके साथ गए लोग निराश और उदास वापस आये क्योंकि वे रतन को खो चुके थे। जिस गाड़ी से ये सब आ रहे थे वो दुर्घटनाग्रस्त हो गई थी, सभी को कहीं न कहीं चोट आई थी लेकिन रतन घटनास्थल पर किसी को नहीं मिला। वो कैसा है और कहाँ चला गया किसी ने नहीं देखा।

ये सब सुनकर पल्लवी स्तब्ध रह गई उसे यकीन नहीं हुआ कि उसकी आशंका सच बनकर सामने आ गई है। बच्चों को देखकर पल्लवी खुद को संभालने की कोशिश करने लगी। उसे अब सिर्फ भगवान का ही सहारा है, रतन को एक माह का समय बीत गया। पल्लवी भगवान से यही प्रार्थना करती है कि रतन वापस आ जाए। धीरे - धीरे छह महीने बीत गए अब पल्लवी की बातों में निराशा दिखने लगी है। आज पल्लवी उसके मायके गई है उस बरगद के पेड़ पर मन्नत का धागा बांधने, जिस पर उसने शादी से पहले धागा बांधी थी। उसका विश्वास है कि ये धागा ही रतन को वापस खींच लायेगा। ये कोई इत्तेफाक था या चमत्कार कि पल्लवी की मन्नत पूरी हो गई और रतन घर आ गए। रतन ने बताये कि जब दुर्घटना हुई तो वे गाड़ी से दूर गिरकर किसी गड्ढे में जा गिरे थे और कुछ मजदूरों ने उनकी जान बचाई, लेकिन हालत बहुत ज्यादा खराब होने के कारण जल्दी नहीं आ सके अभी भी उनके साथ दो लोग आये थे उन्हें छोड़ने। रतन के वापस आ जाने से पल्लवी बहुत खुश है उसका विश्वास जीत गया। क्योंकि मन्नत का धागा पल्लवी की खुशियों को बांध लाया था। ☺☺

You must have prayed somewhere to fulfill a special wish of yours. It may Or may not have been fulfilled but you must have visited such a place with faith. Till date, none of my wishes have been fulfilled. I always felt as if someone had tied a thread before me that my wish, would not be fulfilled.

Well! All these incidents are a part of our life, how can we run away from them. Pallavi believes in all these things a lot. She is very religious minded, sometimes she has complaints with God, she expresses her displeasure and threantens God that if you do not listen to any of my prayers then why should I come to the temple. I will not come from tomorrow but going to the temple everyday and fighting with God is her daily routine. Pallavi lived in a small village. Her complexion was darker than dusky but she looked very attractive because of her sharp features. Due to her tall stature and long hair, the villagers called her a ghost. These things did not matter to Pallavi, but her mother was worried about her daughter's future.

Pallavi is the must educated girl in the village. After completing her studies, she wanted to work but her mother said that they would not let a girl go out of the village alone. When Pallavi asked her mother to come with her, her mother said that shecannot leave the house for her job. Anyway, daughters do not work in our place. All Pallavi's efforts failed. Pallavi is 30 years old and has not yet got married. These days her mother is very busy with rituals. The villagers advised her to perform a special ritual under the banyan tree outside the village for Pallavi's marriage. Everyone believed that everyone's wishes are fulfilled there, after performing the puja Pallavi should tie a red thread on any branch of that tree. If God blesses, she will also get married. Six months have passed and the thread of votive has not done it's work. Pallavi's mother is very worried, but Pallavi behaves as if she already knew that all this will not lead to any result. After some more time, finally a proposal come for Pallavi. Pallavi's parents did not ask any questions about the boy and said yes and confirmed the relationship.

They quickly finalised the relationship because they had no problem with Pallavi's looks. They just wanted a girl who could take care of the house. Pallavi was very happy to hear this and was thinking God and expressing her gratitude. Pallavi's wedding took place in a very simple ceremony. After the wedding when Pallavi reached her in - laws house, she could not believe her luck. She started asking herself whether she would really live in this mansion now. It was true that Pallavi was married in a big family. Because Pallavi's husband Ratan wanted a educated girl who could take care of the land property and the mansion. Pallavi has just been here for a few hours, Ratan said, Pallavi let me introduce you to your new family. Ratan moved towards the room where a girl was lying unconscious on the bed. Ratan called out, Pinky, look your mother has come. Pallavi was a little surprised to hear these words, but there was a picture hanging on the wall in which there was a picture of a woman with Ratan. Pallavi understood that I am Ratan's second wife.

Pallavi took great care of Pinky and now Pinky does not leave Pallavi alone even for a moment. Ratan is very happy to marry Pallavi because Pinky has found her mother again. Slowly, Ratan's love for Pallavi also started increasing. Ratan wants to have a son who will take care of the property, but Pallavi says that for her Pinky is her daughter and she is her son too. Not much time had passed when Ratan got the good news that Pallavi is pregnant. Now Pallavi is being taken special care of, even Pinky does not trouble her mother. Pallavi's delivery date is near, so Ratan has postponed all his business trips. Pallavi had to be admited to the hospital at night and Ratan's wish came true, Pallavi gave birth to a son who looked exactly like a prince. Ratan kissed Pallavi's forehead and said that today our family is complete, Pallavi smiled. Ratan forgot his work in his love for his son and spent the whole day with his son. Till now Pallavi had taken care of the small tasks but the trips which were postponed had to be completed. Ratan understood that it was important to focus on work, so he made a list of all his unfinished tasks and started working on completing them. Only a few of the trips which were postponed were left. After spending a week with the family. Ratan is perparing to go on his next trip. But this time, Pallavi is feeling restless for some unknown reason. She did not tell this to Ratan because the trip could not be postponed now. Ratan went with some of his colleagues for a week's trip. Waiting for a week was very difficult for Pallavi. Difficult because seeds of apprehension had sprouted in Pallavi's mind for this trip. Thinking that today would be a day of happiness. Pallavi sat at the door all day. While waiting for Ratan till night, strange thoughts started coming to Pallavi's mind. Then she consoled herself that no, nothing will happen to Ratan, he will be fine wherever he is. But Pallavi's tears were not in vain, two days later the people who had gone with returned disappointed and sad because they had lost Ratan. The car in which they were coming had met with an accident, everyone was injured somewhere but no one found Ratan at the accident spot. No one saw how he was and where he had gone.

Hearing all this, Pallavi was shocked. She could not believe that her fears had come true. Seeing the children, Pallavi tried to control herself. Now she has only God to support her. Ratan has been gone for a month, Pallavi prays to God every day that Ratan comes back. Slowly six months have passed and now disappointment is visible in Pallavi's words. Today Pallavi has gone to her parents' house to tie a wish thread on the banyan tree on which she had tied a thread before marriage. She believes that this thread will bring Ratan back. It was a coincidence or a miracle that Pallavi's wish was fulfilled and Ratan came home. Ratan told that when the accident happened, he fell away from the vehicle and fell into a ditch and some labourers saved his life, but due to his condition which very bad, they could not come back quickly, even now two people had come with him to drop him off. Pallavi is very happy because Ratan has returned. Today her trust has been won. Because the thread of votive had tied Pallavi's happiness. ☺☺
