अवनी एक समाज सेवी संस्था से जुड़ी थी। जो रक्षाबंधन पर सैनिकों को सरहद पर राखी बांधने जाया करती थी। आज अपने अतीत के पन्ने क्यों पलट रही थी। इस सबसे अलग हुए उसे 15 साल बीत चुके हैं, उसकी अपनी गृहस्थी भी बहुत अच्छी चल रही थी। दो प्यारे बेटों की मां बन चुकी थी अब वो। पीछे मुड़कर देखना उसका स्वभाव नहीं था।

लेकिन आज सुबह खिड़की खोली तो देखकर हैरान रह गई ! पड़ोस में नए घर में जो परिवार रहने आया था वो अनन्त का परिवार था। अनन्त एक फौजी था, और तमिल परिवार का लड़का था। जब उसने अवनी को देखा तो दिल दे बैठा और निश्चय किया कि वो शादी के लिए अम्मा और अप्पा को मनाएगा। फोन पर घंटो बात होती थी अवनी और अनन्त की। दिन में कितनी ही बार फोन करता था अनन्त।

बहुत प्यार करता था अवनी से। अनन्त छुट्टी में घर गया तो सोच रहा था अप्पा से शादी की बात करके अवनी को खुशखबरी देगा। लेकिन अप्पा गैर तमिल लड़की को अपनी बहू के रूप में स्वीकार नहीं करना चाहते थे। अनन्त नहीं माना उसने ज़िद पकड़ ली कि शादी करेगा तो सिर्फ अवनी से।

इस ज़िद का अप्पा पर कोई असर नहीं पड़ा, उन्होंने अनन्त को इतना पीटे कि उसका पैर टूट गया और बुरी हालत अम्मा से देखी नहीं गई उन्होंने अनन्त की डायरी से अवनी का का नंबर ढूंढी और फ़ोन पर अवनी से बात करके उसे अनंत की हालत बताई। इधर अवनी रो रही थी उधर अम्मा के आंसू नहीं थमते थे, अम्मा बोली अवनी तुम बहुत सुंदर हो तुम्हें अनन्त से भी अच्छा लड़का मिल जाएगा, तुम उसको भूल जाओ। अप्पा तुम दोनों को साथ नहीं जीने देंगे।

अवनी को अब फ़ैसला करना ही था, अनन्त की ज़िंदगी का सवाल था। प्यार को घुटने टेकने ही पड़े। क्या करती अनन्त की ज़िंदगी बहुत कीमती थी। अवनी ने अम्मा को वचन दी कि वो अब अनन्त से बात नहीं करेगी और उसकी ज़िंदगी से दूर चली जाएगी।

अनन्त के अप्पा ने इसी दौरान उसकी शादी भी तय कर दी और एक सप्ताह में ही अवनी की दुनिया वीरान कर दी। धीरे धीरे आगे बढ़ना था, अब अवनी भी आगे बढ़ रही थी। कुछ सालों बाद अवनी की भी शादी हो गई और वो अपनी दुनिया में खुश थी।
