प्रेम पत्र/Love Letter

पर्स में पुरानी चिट्ठियों को देख यादों के खट्टे मीठे एहसास के साथ किरण उन दिनों को याद करने लगी जब दीपक और उसकी पहली मुलाकात हुई थी।

           

दीपक जम्मू कश्मीर में रहता था और किरण राजस्थान में। दोनो की मुलाकात राष्ट्रीय एकता शिविर में हुई थी। उस समय दोनो की उम्र 18 ,19 साल रही होगी, शिविर दस दिन का था दोनो की दोस्ती हो गई। तब वो ये नहीं जानते थे कि ये दोस्ती कभी प्यार के रंग में रंग जायेगी।

           

पहले टेलीफोन पर बात होती थी और वो भी हर घर में नही रहता था। ज्यादा समय पत्र के जवाब का इंतजार करने में निकल जाता था। महीने में सिर्फ दो ही पत्र आते थे, क्योंकि एक सप्ताह में यहां से पत्र जायेगा और दूसरे सप्ताह उस पत्र का जवाब आएगा।

ख़ैर ! अब तक दोस्ती पर प्यार का रंग चढ़ चुका था। किरण इतने दूर रहकर भी अपना प्यार पूरी ईमानदारी से निभा रही थी। दीपक ने भी कभी शिकायत का मौका नहीं दिया।

                          दीपक परिवार का बड़ा बेटा था, इसलिए उसकी जिम्मेदारियां भी बड़ी थी। जिंदगी में बहुत उतार चढ़ाव देखने के बाद दीपक जम्मू कश्मीर पुलिस के लिए चयनित हो गया। किरण और दीपक की खुशी का ठिकाना नहीं था। वो सोच रहे थे कि अब उन्हें अपनी जिंदगी साथ जीने से कोई नहीं रोक सकता। 

लेकिन हम जो सोचते हैं, वो कभी नहीं होता। दीपक की नौकरी लगते ही परिवार वाले दबाव डालने लगे शादी के लिए। यही समय था जब दीपक अपने माता पिता से खुद की और किरण की शादी की बात कर सकता था।

         

बात किया भी, लेकिन उसके माता पिता ने जो उत्तर दिए दीपक को, उसे सुनकर दीपक को अपने कानों पर भरोसा नहीं हुआ। दीपक की आंखो से आंसू बह निकले, वो सोचने लगा क्यों मुझसे मेरे प्यार का सौदा किए माता पिता ने।

                अब दीपक सोचने लगा क्या जवाब देगा वो किरण को। कैसे उसके सपनों से भरी आंखों में आंसू देगा। लेकिन कब तक सच को छिपाएगा, एक महीने बाद शादी होना तय हो चुका था।

दीपक से आसानी से बात हो जाए इसलिए किरण ने घर में टेलीफोन भी लगवा ली। उनकी रोज ही बात होती थी, लेकिन पिछले कुछ महीनों से ठीक से बात नहीं हो पा रही थी।

           

फोन की घंटी बजते ही किरण काम छोड़कर पहले फोन उठाने आई, हेलो ! सुनते ही किरण चहक उठी, अरे दीपक तुम कहां थे कोई फोन नहीं किए कई दिनों से। दीपक की आवाज कुछ उदास सी आ रही थी। किरण समझ गई कुछ ना कुछ गंभीर बात है।

घबराकर किरण ने पूछी क्या हुआ सब ठीक तो है, दीपक ने जवाब दिया मैं कुछ ठीक नहीं कर सका किरण। मुझे माफ कर दो, मैने घर में जब हमारी शादी की बात की तो माता पिता ने जवाब दिए कि पूरे परिवार को जहर लाकर दे दो और कर लो अपने मन की। 

               

दीपक रोते हुए बोला बताओ किरण मैं क्या करूं। किरण समझ गई कि यदि इस समय दीपक को सही रास्ता नहीं दिखाया तो वो कुछ गलत भी कर सकता है। किरण ने दीपक को माता पिता की पसंद की गई लड़की से शादी के लिए हां करने को बोल दी।

दीपक को आश्चर्य हुआ, तो उसने किरण से पूछा तुम्हे बुरा नहीं लगा मेरी शादी हो रही है। किरण बोली मैं तुम्हारे लिए बहुत खुश हूं, एक बेटे की जिम्मेदारी निभाओ और अच्छे पति का कर्तव्य भी ईमानदारी से निभाना। मुझे गर्व है तुम पर कि तुम स्वार्थी नहीं हो।

शादी के दिन करीब थे और दीपक अपनी शादीशुदा जिंदगी में कोई कलह नहीं चाहता था। इसलिए वो किरण द्वारा भेजे गए पत्रों और फोटो को नष्ट करना चाहता था। पत्रों को जलाना अशुभ होता है, इसलिए दीपक उन पत्रों को नदी में बहा आया।

किसी शायर की ये दो लाईन बिल्कुल सही है - 

          तेरे ख़त आज मैं गंगा में बहा आया हूं ,

          आग बहते हुए पानी में लगा आया हूं।

          

नदी में बहाने से पहले हर पत्र को दीपक ने 10 - 10 बार पढ़ा। आखरी बार चूमा और बहाते हुए आंसू पोछता रहा। अपना दुःख किसी को बता भी नहीं सकता था।

            

इधर किरण भी शांत थी और समय के हिसाब से खुद को बदलने की कोशिश कर रही थी। शादी के बाद दीपक ने फोन किया तो किरण के व्यवहार में कोई परिवर्तन ना देख दीपक को खुशी भी हुई और आश्चर्य भी।

किरण ऐसी ही थी, अपनी खुशी से ज्यादा उसे दूसरों की खुशी का ख्याल रहता था। वो हमेशा एक ही बात कहती थी कि अपने लिए क्या जीना, दूसरों को खुशी दे पाए तो जीवन सफल हो जाता है।

दीपक की शादी को आज 15 वर्ष बीत चुके हैं। किरण आज भी अपनी दोस्ती के लिए ईमानदार है और उनकी दोस्ती को 17 साल हो चुके हैं। दोनो अपनी दोस्ती को निभा रहे हैं। किरण को दीपक से कोई शिकायत नहीं।

Seeing the old letters in the purse , Kiran started remembering the days when Deepak and her first met with a sour sweet feeling of memories.

             

Deepak lived in Jammu and Kashmir and Kiran in Rajasthan. The two met at the National Integration Camp. At that time both of them must have been 18, 19 years old, the camp was of ten days, both of them became friends. Then they did not know that his friendship would ever be coloured in the colour of love.

            

Earlier there was talk on the telephone and that too did not live in every house. Much time was spent waiting for the reply of the letter. Only two letters used to come in a month, because in one week the letter would go from here and the answer to that letter would come in the second week.

                         So ! By now the colour of love had taken over friendship. Kiran was fulfilled her love sincerely even after staying so far. Deepak also never gave a chance to complain.

Deepak was the eldest son of the family. So his responsibilities were also big. Seeing many ups and downs in life, Deepak got selected for Jammu and Kashmir police. Kiran and Deepak's happiness knew no bounds. He was thinking that now no one can stop from living his life together.

                       But what we think never happens. As soon as Deepak got his job, the family members started pressurising him for marriage. This was the time when Deepak could talk to his parents about himself and Kiran's marriage.

           

Even talked, but after hearing the answer given by his parents to Deepak, Deepak could not believe his ears. Tears flowed from Deepak's eyes, he started thinking why did my parents deal with me for my love.

Now Deepak started thinking what answer he would give to Kiran. How would he have tears in his dreamy eyes ? But how long will he hide the truth, after a month it was decided to get married.

To talk to Deepak easily, Kiran also got a telephone installed in the house. He used to talk every day, but for the last few months, he could not talk properly.

             

As soon as the phone rang, Kiran left work and came first to pick up the phone, hello ! On hearing this, Kiran chirped, Hey Deepak where were you, since many days no one called. Deepak's voice sounded a bit sad. Kiran understood that there was something serious about it.

Terrified, Kiran asked what happened, is everything okay, Deepak replied, I could not fix anything Kiran. Forgive me, when I talked about our marriage in the house, the parents replied that bring poison to the whole family and do what you want.

              

 Deepak said crying, tell me what should I do. Kiran understood that if  Deepak is not shown right path at this time, then he can also do something wrong. Kiran tells Deepak to agree to marry the girl of his parent's choice.

Deepak was surprised, so he asked Kiran, do not you mind, I am getting married. Kiran said I am very happy for you, fulfill the responsibility of a son and also fulfill the duty of a good husband honestly. I am proud of you that you are not selfish.

                     The wedding days were close and Deepak did not want any discord in his married life. So he wanted to destroy the letters and photos sent by Kiran. It is inauspicious to burn letters, so those letters were thrown in the river.

These two lines of a poet are absolutely correct - 

Today I have shed your letters in the Ganga,

I  have  put  fire  in  the  flowing   water.

           

Deepak read each letter 10 - 10 to times before shedding it in the river. Kissed for the last time and kept wiping the tears flowing. Couldn't even tell his grief to anyone.

         

Here Kiran was also calm and was trying to change herself according to the time. After marriage, when Deepak called, Deepak was happy and surprised to see no change in Kiran's behaviour.

Kiran was like this, more than her own happiness, she was more concerned about the happiness of others. She always used to say the same thing that what to live for yourself, if you can give happiness to others, then life becomes successful.

Today 15 years have passed since Deepak's marriage. Kiran is still honest about his friendship and it has been 17 years since their friendship. Both are maintaining their friendship. Kiran has no complaint against Deepak.
