जब शाहीन का निकाह हुआ तब उसकी उम्र सिर्फ 18 वर्ष की थी। उसका रिश्ता पिता की बहन के घर ही हुआ। सभी खुश भी थे और निश्चिंत भी, कि लड़की घर में ही है। उसे कोई दिक्कत नहीं होगी।

सगी फूफी भी शाहीन को तकलीफ और ताने देने में पीछे नहीं रही। हमेशा ही शाहीन को ताने देती थी कि तेरे कंगाल बाप ने तो कुछ नहीं दिया, अच्छा होता जो हम रिश्ता कहीं और करते। रिश्तेदारी में रिश्ता करके हम पछता गए।

शाहीन मां बनने वाली थी, लेकिन ससुराल में कोई ख्याल रखने वाला भी ना था। क्योंकि शौहर तो अपनी मां की कोई बात नही टालता था। गर्भवती पत्नी को मां के कहने पर पीटने में भी उसे जरा सा दुख ना हुआ।

शाहीन ने कभी अपने अब्बू को इन बातों की भनक तक ना लगने दी। अब उसकी डिलीवरी का समय नजदीक आ गया तो सास ने शाहीन को अपने मायके जाने का फरमान सुना दी। शाहीन की सास ने फोन करके शाहीन के अब्बू को बुलवा ली कि भाईजान शाहीन को डिलीवरी के लिए साथ ले जाएं। यहां कौन करेगा उसकी देख रेख, मुझसे अकेले ये सब नहीं होगा।

शाहीन ने बेटे को जन्म दिया लेकिन ना सास के रवैए में सुधार आया और ना शौहर के। किस मिट्टी की बनी थी शाहीन, सब कुछ सहती रहती थी लेकिन कभी उफ्फ! तक नहीं की।

ज़िंदगी से तालमेल बैठाने की कोशिश करते करते शाहीन को ससुराल में चार वर्ष बीत चुके थे। कभी किसी से कोई शिकायत नहीं की। अब शाहीन दूसरी बार मां बनने वाली थी। इस बार समय से पहले ही अब्बू को बुलाकर शाहीन अपने मायके आ गई।

खुदा की मेहरबानी थी कि इस बार भी बेटा हुआ। डिलीवरी के 6 महीने बाद भी शाहीन से मिलने उसका शौहर नहीं आया और ना कोई खैर खबर पूछा। खुद शाहीन भी जाने का ज़िक्र नहीं कर रही थी।

अब शाहीन के अम्मी अब्बू को चिंता होने लगी कि आखिर जिस बेटी के सुख की कामना से बहन के घर बेटी का रिश्ता किए उसे क्या परेशानी है। जो कोई भी कुछ बताना नहीं चाहता।

जब शाहीन से पूछा गया तो उसका एक ही जवाब था कि अब वो उस घर में कभी नहीं जायेगी। वहां उसके साथ जानवरों sa व्यवहार किया जाता है। मुझे तलाक चाहिए, रोज की मारपीट अब मुझसे बर्दास्त नहीं होती अब्बू। यदि तलाक नहीं हुआ तो आप अपनी बेटी को खो देंगे।

अब सारे सवाल जवाब खत्म हो चुके थे। बच्चों के साथ शाहीन अपने वालिद के घर आ गई थी। बच्चों के लिए इसके शौहर ने कोर्ट में अर्जी लगा दी। लेकिन बच्चे छोटे होने के कारण मां को ही मिला दोनों बेटों को बड़ा करने का जिम्मा।

शाहीन के दोनों बेटे अब स्कूल जाने लगे थे। बेटों को बढ़ते देख शाहीन अपनी पिछली ज़िंदगी के दुःख दर्द सब भूल जाती थी। लेकिन खुदा ने उसके आने वाले कल की कुछ अलग तस्वीर बनाई थी, जिसमें वो सारे रंग भरे थे जिनकी शाहीन ने हमेशा ख्वाहिश की थी।

उनके घर नया किरायेदार आया जिसका नाम नदीम था। नदीम को शाहीन का व्यवहार और मीठे बोल बहुत पसंद थे। वो अक्सर शाहीन से बात करने के बहाने ढूंढता रहता। वहीं शाहीन के परिवार वाले इस बात पर ध्यान देने लगे कि नदीम ज्यादातर घर में रहने की कोशिश करता है, ताकि वो शाहीन के बारे में ज्यादा से ज्यादा जान सके।

नदीम की बीवी मर चुकी थी। वो फेरी लगाकर कपड़े बेचा करता था। यही काम वो यहां भी करता था, कमाई ठीक ठाक कर लेता था। शाहीन के अब्बू ने नदीम से बात की कि क्या वो शाहीन से निकाह करने के लिए राजी है। तब उसने अपनी रजामंदी जाहिर किया।

निकाह के बाद नदीम ने शाहीन के दोनों बेटों को अपना नाम दिया और उन्हें बेहतर परवरिश दी। दोनों बेटे ये बात जानते थे कि नदीम उनके सौतेले पिता है। लेकिन ना कभी बच्चों ने परायापन जाहिर किए और ना नदीम ने उन बच्चों को सौतेलेपन का एहसास दिलाए।

सब कुछ अच्छा चल रहा था, शाहीन भी खुश थी लेकिन उसकी तबियत कुछ ठीक नहीं थी। ऐसे ही साधारण जांच के लिए शाहीन को अस्पताल ले गए। कुछ जांच के बाद उसे घर ले आए। रिपोर्ट दो दिन बाद मिलने वाली थी।

रिपोर्ट के इंतजार में दो दिन बेचैनी से बीते। सुबह ही नदीम अस्पताल पहुंच गए। जिस बात का डर था वही डर सामने आया। शाहीन को कैंसर हो गया था और बीमारी का पता चलने के एक माह में ही शाहीन इस दुनिया को अलविदा कह गई।

दोनों बेटों की जिम्मेदारी अब अकेले नदीम पर आ गई। जिसे बखूबी निभाया नदीम ने। बेटों की शादियां की और एक अच्छा पिता और ससुर दोनों ही किरदार बखूबी निभा रहे नदीम।

आज जहां सगे बाप अपने फर्ज निभाने में कोताही बरतते हैं,। वहां नदीम ने सौतेला बाप होते हुए भी अपने सभी कर्तव्यों का पालन किए।

But even the real aunt did not lag behind in troubling and taunting Shaheen. She always used to taunt Shaheen that your pauper father would not have given anything better that we would have done the relationship elsewhere. We regretted having a relationship in kinship.

Shaheen was about to become a mother, but there was no one to take care of her in - law's. Because the husband did not avoid any talk of his mother. He did not feel hurt in beating the pregnant wife at the behest of the mother.

Shaheen never let his father even know about these things. Now that the time of her delivery was near, the mother - in - law told Shaheen to go to her maternal home. Both the sons of Shaheen were now going to school. Seeing the sons growing up, Shaheen used to forget all the pain of her previous life. But God had made a different picture of his tomorrow, in which all the colours that Shaheen had always wished for.

A new tenant came to their house whose name was Nadeem. Nadeem loved Shaheen's behaviour and sweet words. He often kept looking for excuses to talk to Shaheen. At the some time, Shaheen's family members started noticing that Nadeem mostly tries to stay in the house. So that he can know more and more about Shaheen.

Nadeem's wife was dead, he used to sell clothes by Hawking. He used to do some work here also, he used to earn well. Shaheen's father talks to Nadeem, whether he is ready to marry Shaheen. Then he expressed his consent.

After the marriage, Nadeem gave his name to both the sons of Shaheen and gave them better upbringing. Both the sons knew that Nadeem was their stepfather. But never did the children express alienation and neither did Nadeem make those children feel step- motherly.

Everything was going well, Shaheen was also happy. But her health was not well. Just like this, Shaheen was taken to the hospital for simple check - up. After some investigation, Shaheen was brought home, the report was to be received after two days.

Two days spent restlessly waiting for the report, Nadeem reached the hospital in the morning itself. Whatever was feared, the same fear came to the fore. Shaheen was diagnosed with cancer and within a month of being diagnosed with the disease, Shaheen said goodbye to this world.

The responsibility of both the sons now fell on Nadeem alone. Which was well played by Nadeem. The sons got married and both a good father and father-in- law are playing the character well Nadeem.

Today, where real father are reluctant in performing their duties. Nadeem performed all his duties in spite of being step father.
