क्यों जरूरी है ? / Why is it necessary ?

हंसने के लिए, खुश रहने के लिए, जीने के लिए क्यों किसी का हमारी जिंदगी में होना जरुरी है। हम खुद के लिए जीना क्यों नहीं चाहते।

आज रंजना को देखकर मैं ये सोचने पर मजबूर हो गई कि आखिर क्या मिला इसे उस प्यार से जिसके लिए शर्म हया छोड़ दी थी रंजना ने।

रंजना और हरीश पडोसी थे। दोनों के घर आमने सामने ही थे। एक दूसरे के घर आना जाना आम बात थी उनके लिए। दोनों में कब प्यार हो गया किसी को पता ही नहीं चला। उन्हें ये भी परवाह ना रही कि हमारे प्यार की मंजिल क्या और कहाँ होगी।

ख़ैर ! रंजना का ज़्यादा श्रृंगार करना उसकी माँ को कुछ ठीक नहीं लग रहा था। उसे किसी की बात का कोई असर नहीं होता था, यहाँ तक कि माँ के कुछ बोलने समझाने का भी उस पर असर नहीं हो रहा था।

हरीश किसी भी बात के लिए समझदारी नहीं रखता था। इकलौता होने के कारण उसे किसी तरह की जिम्मेदारी का भी एहसास नहीं था। अभी उसको प्यार भी बस एक मजे की बात लगता था।

जब भी हरीश घर में अकेला होता, वो इशारे से रंजना को बुला लेता और वो दोनों घंटों साथ में समय व्यतीत करते। दोनों को इस तरह एक साथ देखकर अब ये खबर पुरे मोहल्ले में फैल गई कि हरीश और रंजना दोनों का प्रेम प्रसंग चल रहा है।

रंजना मन ही मन खुश होती थी कि हरीश से शादी करके उसकी जिंदगी की हर कमी पूरी हो जायेगी। उसको दोबारा गरीबी में नहीं जीना पड़ेगा। रंजना की पारिवारिक परिस्थिति उतनी अच्छी नहीं थी। हरीश इसी बात का फायदा उठा रहा था। क्योंकि वो जानता था कि रंजना गरीब है तो कल में यदि वो उसे छोड़ भी देगा तो रंजना का परिवार उसका कुछ नहीं बिगाड़ सकेगा।

हरीश मामा के घर जा रहा हूं बोलकर दो दिन के लिए शहर से बाहर चला गया। रंजना कुछ ज़्यादा बेचैन थी तो माँ ने पूछा कि क्या बात है रंजना तुम इतनी परेशान क्यों हो।

रंजना ने डरते हुए बताई कि माँ मैं हरीश के बच्चे की माँ बनने वाली हूं। अब परिस्थिति को बिगड़ते देख रंजना की माँ हरीश के घर गई तो देखी कि हरीश भी आ चुका है। हरीश के घर में उत्सव सा माहौल है, एक मिठाई का डिब्बा रंजना की माँ को देते हुए हरीश की माँ बोली ये लो मिठाई खाओ, हरीश की शादी तय हो गई।

रंजना की माँ बिना कुछ कहे वहां से घर आ गई। अब क्या मुँह दिखाएगी समाज में, कहाँ छिपायेगी बेटी का पाप। यही सब सोचकर रंजना की माँ उसे पीटने लगी और बोलने लगी कि तुझे पहले ही समझाई थी कि अमीर लोगों से दूर रह, हमारी इतनी औकात नहीं कि हम उनकी बराबरी कर सके।

रंजना को साथ लेकर उसकी मां उनके पैतृक गाँव चली गई। वहां उसने एक बेटी को जन्म दी। माँ जिन्दा थी तब तक रंजना माँ के साथ रही, उनकी मृत्यु के बाद रंजना अपनी बेटी के साथ यहीं अपने घर में वापस आ गई। लेकिन उसकी हालत बहुत ख़राब हो गई, खुद के लिए जीना भूल गई थी रंजना।

जिस हरीश को उसने अपनी जिंदगी मानी, उसके लिए रंजना की कोई एहमियत नहीं थी। रंजना उसके बगैर जीना नहीं चाहती थी, लेकिन बच्चे पर बुरा असर ना पड़े इस बात का ध्यान रंजना की माँ ने रखी।

अब रंजना का ध्यान उसकी बेटी रखती है। क्यों जरूरी है किसी और के लिए जीना या खुश रहने के लिए क्यों किसी की जरुरत है।

परिस्थतियां तो कभी अनुकूल नहीं होती, लेकिन हम थोड़े कम या ज़्यादा में समझौता करके खुद को खुश रख सकते हैं।

To laugh, to be happy, to live, why is it necessary to have someone in our life. Why don't we want to live for ourselves ?

Seeing Ranjana today, I was compelled to think that what did she get, because of the love for which Ranjana had left shame.

Ranjana and Harish were neighbours. The house of both were opposite to each other. It was common for them to visit each other's houses. When the both fell in love, no one even knew. They did not even care what and where the destination of our love would be.

Well ! Her mother was not feeling well for Ranjana's makeup. She was not affected by anyone's words, even his mother's explanation was not affecting him.

Harish had no sense for anything. Being the only one, he did not even feel any kind of responsibility. Right now, even love seemed to be just a fun thing.

Whenever Harish was alone in the house he would gesture to Ranjana and they would spend hours together. Seeing both of them together like this, now the news spread in the whole locality that both Harish and Ranjana are having a love affair.

Ranjana used to be happy in her heart that by marrying Harish, every short coming in her life would be fulfilled. She will never have to live in poverty again. Ranjana's family situation was not that good. Harish was talking advantage of this thing. Because he knew that Ranjana is poor, then even if he leaves her tomorrow, Ranjana's family will not be able to harm him.

Harish went out of the city for two days saying I am going to maternal uncle's house. Ranjana was a bit restless so mother asked what is the matter Ranjana why are you so upset.

Ranjana fearfully told that mother, I am going to be the mother of Harish's child. Now seeing the situation deteriorating, Ranjana's mother went to Harish's house and saw that Harish had also come. There is a festive atmosphere in Harish's house, giving a box of sweets to Ranjana's mother, Harish's mother said, eat these sweets Harish's marriage is fixed.

Ranjana's mother came home from there without saying anything. Now what face will show in the society, where will the daughter's sin be hidden. Taking Ranjana along her mother went to her native village. There she gave birth to a daughter. Ranjana stayed with her mother till her mother was alive. After her death, Ranjana returned to her home here with her daughter. But her condition became very bad, Ranjana forgot to live for herself.

Ranjana was of no importance to the BBC Harish whom she considered as her life. Ranjana did not want to live without him, but Ranjana's mother took care that the child should not be affected.
