जब से पूनम घर में है उसे कमल कहीं दिखाई नहीं दिया, अब वो निश्चिंत और खुश रहने लगी। अब उसमें इतना साहस आ गया था कि वो घर में अकेली रह लेगी। क्योंकि जिसका उसे डर था वो डर अब उसके आस पास नहीं है। खेतों में फसलों की कटाई का समय आ गया और अब पूनम भी पूरी तरह स्वस्थ हो गई थी। घर की देखभाल की जिम्मेदारी के साथ साथ पूनम को सभी के लिए खाना बनाकर तैयार रखना है, सबके खेत से वापस आने से पहले।

शाम के पांच बज रहे थे पूनम खाना बना रही थी। कमल कहां गया था और अचानक कैसे आ गया कुछ नहीं पता। कमल ये बात जनता था कि खेतों में फसल कटाई के लिए गांव के ज्यादातर लोग खेत गए हैं। इसी बात का फायदा उठाने की कोशिश में कमल बिना सोचे समझे पूनम के घर में घुस गया।

पूनम सब्जी बना रही थी, कमल जैसे ही घर में घुसा पूनम पर झपटा। अचानक हुए हमले की वजह से पूनम हक्की बक्की रह गई। पूनम की चीख निकली पापा मुझे बचाओ, लेकिन अब वक्त था खुद की इज्जत बचाने का। क्योंकि यहां उसकी मदद के लिए कोई नही आने वाला था कारण पूरा गांव लगभग सूना पड़ा था।

अचानक ऐसे हालात में फंसी पूनम के हाथ में चाकू आ गया और हाथापाई करते करते कमल पूनम को गिराकर उसके ऊपर बैठ गया और उसका गला दबाने लगा। बहुत संघर्ष करने के बाद पूनम ने अपने गले से कमल के हाथ हटाए और उसे पीछे धकेल दी। पूनम ने पूरी ताकत से हाथ में जो चाकू था उसे कमल के पेट में घोंप दी। खून की धार से पूनम पूरी तरह खून से लथपथ हो गई थी, जैसे तैसे घर से बाहर भागी, तब तक चीख पुकार सुनकर गांव के कुछ लोगों ने पूनम के माता पिता तक खबर पहुंचा दी थी कि तुम्हारे घर में कमल घुस गया है और पूनम को उससे जान का खतरा है। बदहवास पूनम जैसे ही बाहर की तरफ भागी पिता को देख जोर से रोने लगी और जैसे ही पिता ने उसे गले लगाए पूनम बेहोश हो गई। इस घटना से पूनम को बहुत गहरा सदमा हुआ। कई दिनों तक अस्पताल में भर्ती रहने के बाद भी उसके मन मस्तिष्क से ये बातें निकल नहीं रही थी। उसे बार बार खून से लथपथ कमल की लाश का ख्याल आता था। पूनम यही सोचती थी कि उसके जीवन में ऐसा मोड़ क्यों आया। वो अभी बच्ची थी इसलिए उससे पुलिस ने ज्यादा पूछताछ नहीं की, उसकी मानसिक स्थिति भी ठीक नहीं थी कुछ देर में हंसने लगती कुछ देर में डरने और रोने लगती थी।

पूनम की ऐसी हालत देखकर उसकी मां बहुत दुखी थी, वो अक्सर कहती थी कि क्या पता मेरी बेटी के लिए क्या अभिशाप था? उसका खूबसूरत होना या लड़की होने की वजह से उसे इन हालातों का सामना करना पड़ा। अभी पूनम को सामान्य होने में पता नहीं कितना समय लगेगा। उसकी देखरेख में व्यस्त मां अपनी बेटी के जल्द स्वस्थ होने की विनती करती है भगवान से। पूनम की सुरक्षा में जो चूक हुई उसके लिए पिता अपने आपको जिम्मेदारी मानते हुए, अपनी अचेत बेटी से क्षमा मांगते रहते हैं। बेटी तुम मुझसे स्पष्ट रूप से अपनी परेशानी कह न सकी लेकिन मैंने भी कुछ जानने की चेष्टा क्यों नहीं की। मैं अपने आपको कभी क्षमा नहीं कर पाऊंगा।

पूनम ने अस्पताल में पूरे छह महीने का समय बिताया। अब थोड़ा सामान्य महसूस करने लगी है पूनम। अब वो ये समझ गई कि जो दुर्घटना उसके साथ घटी है और अनजाने में स्वयं की रक्षा करते हुए उसके हाथ से जो कमल की हत्या हो गई, वो उस समय होना ही था। क्योंकि पूनम की जगह कोई भी लड़की होती तो वो भी यही करती जो पूनम ने की। अभी पूनम नाबालिग है तो इस केस को उसके बालिग होने तक स्थगित रखा गया है। ना चाहते हुए भी पूनम और उसका परिवार इस मानसिक तनाव में रहेगा कि पता नहीं उनकी बेटी के साथ क्या होगा आगे।

कमल जैसे लड़कों को एक बार ये जरूर सोचना चाहिए कि लड़कियों को सुरक्षित माहौल देना सिर्फ उनके परिवार की जिम्मेदारी नहीं है। पड़ोसी भी परिवार का हिस्सा होते हैं लड़कियों की सुरक्षा का ध्यान सभी रखें और उन्हें बेहतर और सुरक्षित कल की तरफ निडरता से बढ़ने दें। बेटियों की सुरक्षा पूरे समाज की जिम्मेदारी है।

As soon as Poonam ran outside, seeing her father, she started crying loudly and as soon as the father hugged her, Poonam fainted.

Poonam was deeply shocked by this incident. Even after being admitted in the hospital for several days, these things were not coming out of his mind. She used to think of the dead body of Kamal soaked in blood again and again. The mother, whos busy taking care of her, prays to God for her daughter's speedy recovery. Poonam spent a full six months in the hospital. Now Poonam has started feeling a bit normal. Now she understood that the accident that happened to her and Kamal was killed by her hand while protecting herself unknowingly, was bound to happen at that time. Because in place of Poonam, any other girl would have done the same thing which Poonam did. Now Poonam is a minor, So this case has been postponed till she attains majority. Even without wanting to, Poonam and her family will remain in this mental tension that they do not know what will happen next with their daughter.

Boys like Kamal must think for once that providing safe environment to girls is not only the responsibility of their family. Neighbours are also part of the family. Everyone should take care of the safety of the girls and let them grow fearlessly towards a better and safer tomorrow. The safety of daughters is the responsibility of the entire society.
