रत्ना की शादी को अभी तीन महीने हुए हैं और ये उसकी शादी के बाद पहली रक्षाबंधन है। रत्ना के मायके में खुशी और उदासी का मिलाकुला माहौल है इस समय। खुशी की बात ये है कि रत्ना मां बनने वाली हैं, और सबके उदास होने का कारण ये है कि रत्ना इस वर्ष रक्षाबंधन पर मायके नहीं आ सकेगी।

क्योंकि शुरू के कुछ महीनों में उसे अपना खास ख्याल रखना होगा। रत्ना पांच भाई बहनों में तीसरे नंबर की संतान हैं, परिवार की परिस्थिति उतनी अच्छी नहीं है। अपने मायके की हालत को देखते हुए रत्ना ससुराल की बातें अपनी मां या बहनों से नही कहती थी। रत्ना का पति शक्की था हर वक्त वो रत्ना पर नजर रखता था कि किससे बात कर रही है किसकी तरफ देखकर हंसी। पति की इन हरकतों और बंदिशों से रत्ना का ससुराल में दम घुटता था। लेकिन सब कुछ सहना उसकी मजबूरी थी। सावन का महीना और मायके न आ पाने की विवशता के कारण रत्ना थोड़ी चिढ़चिढ़ी हो रही थी। ये बात उसके पति अक्षय को अच्छी नहीं लगी, लेकिन पड़ोस में रहने वाला बशीर रत्ना की हालत को समझकर उससे बात करके उसे हंसाया करता था। एक दिन ऐसे ही बशीर की किसी बात पर रत्ना जोर से हंस दी, बस फिर क्या था अक्षय ने बिना कुछ सोचे समझे उसका हाथ पकड़ा और खींचकर अंदर ले गया। रत्ना पर गंदी गलियों की बौछार लगा दी उसने और रत्ना को बदचलन कहकर पीटने लगा। अब अक्षय ये भी स्वीकारने को तैयार नहीं कि रत्ना के गर्भ में पल रहा बच्चा उसका ही है। रत्ना ने अपनी हर गलती के लिए माफी मांगी और अक्षय से वादा भी की कि आज के बाद वो घर से बाहर कहीं नहीं जाएगी। लेकिन अक्षय कुछ सुनने को तैयार नहीं था और उसने रत्ना के ऊपर लोहे का पलंग पटक दिया। इतना करने के बाद अक्षय वहां से चला गया, उसे ये भी फिक्र नहीं थी कि रत्ना को कितनी चोट आई होगी। लेकिन रत्ना की बूढ़ी सास रोती हुई रत्ना का सिर अपनी गोद में रखकर उसे दिलासा दे रही थी कि सब ठीक हो जायेगा। रत्ना की पूरी पीठ लहूलुहान हो गई थी वो उठ नही पा रही थी। सारी रात रत्ना ऐसे ही जमीन पर पड़ी रही, उसकी सास ने उसकी पीठ पर घर में रखी हुई मलहम लगा दी। जिससे उसे थोड़ा आराम हो जाए। सुबह तक रत्ना को दर्द से थोड़ी राहत हुई। लेकिन अक्षय का गुस्सा अभी तक शांत नही हुआ था। उसने दोबारा रत्ना को पीटना शुरू किया, बहू की हालत अब उसकी सास से देखी नही जा रही थी। दूसरे दिन रत्ना की सास ने सुबह जल्दी उसे घर से रवाना कर दी। रत्ना को कुछ पैसे दिए और मायके चले जाने का बोलकर सास अपने आंसू पोंछते हुए रत्ना के पैर पड़ने लगी। बोली मुझे माफ कर दे बेटी मैं तेरे लिए कुछ न कर सकी। लेकिन तू जैसे तैसे यहां से निकल जा। मूसलाधार बारिश में भीगते हुए रत्ना वहां से रवाना हो गई, लेकिन उसकी हालत इतनी खराब थी कि वो घर पहुंचने से पहले अस्पताल पहुंची। रत्ना को बस में ही बेहोशी छाने लगी थी, इसलिए बस के कुछ यात्रियों ने मिलकर उसे अस्पताल में भर्ती करवा दिए।

उन्हीं यात्रियों में से एक यात्री उनके पड़ोस का था जिसने रत्ना के घर खबर दी कि रत्ना अस्पताल में भर्ती है। तुरंत रत्ना के परिवार वाले अस्पताल पहुंचे तो पता चला कि उसकी रीढ़ की हड्डी में दरार आ गई है। जिसे ठीक होने में दो महीने का समय लगेगा। इस बार की रक्षाबंधन रत्ना ने अस्पताल में मनाई। डबडबाई आंखों से भाई को देखती रही और लेटे हुए ही उसकी कलाई पर राखी बांधी। उसके बाद रत्ना के परिवार ने निर्णय लिया कि रत्ना अब ससुराल वापस नहीं जाएगी। इस बात से रत्ना भी सहमत थी क्योंकि वो अपने पति के शक्की व्यवहार से परेशान हो गई थी। अब रत्ना को नौ महीने पूरे हो चुके हैं, एक बार फिर उसे अस्पताल में भर्ती करवाया गया और रत्ना ने एक प्यारी बेटी को जन्म दी।

बेटी का नाम तारा रखी, तारा को अक्षय ने स्वीकारने से मना कर दिया। इस बात से रत्ना बहुत दुखी थी, कि तारा को ना तो पिता का प्यार और न नाम मिल रहा है। ख़ैर ! समय अपनी गति से बीत रहा था और तारा अब तेरह साल की हो गई थी। उसकी नानी के घर उसकी मौसी के बच्चे भी इनके साथ ही रहते हैं। जिसमे एक बेटा वरुण और बेटी तनुश्री है, बचपन से तारा वरुण को ही राखी बांधती थी। परिवार के सभी बच्चों में बहुत प्रेम था। छोटी मोटी नोंक झोंक तो चलती ही रहती है। थोड़ी देर में सब भूलकर बच्चे फिर एक साथ खेलने और बतियाने लगते थे। लेकिन आजकल वरुण और तारा की ज्यादा ही लड़ाईयां हो रही है, कभी वरुण नाराज तो कभी तारा।

अब रक्षाबंधन का त्योहार नजदीक है, तारा ने सोची वरुण के लिए एक अच्छा सा ड्रेस ले लेती हूं जिससे उसकी नाराजगी मिट जायेगी और लड़ाई भी खत्म हो जाएगी। लेकिन वरुण ने हद से ज्यादा बुरा व्यवहार किया तारा के साथ। रक्षाबंधन के दिन सुबह ही दोनो भाई बहन तैयार हो गए दादा दादी के पास जाने के लिए। तारा ने रोते हुए वरुण का हाथ पकड़ ली और बोली प्लीज भाई आज रुक जा कल चले जाना। आज रक्षाबंधन है तू चला जायेगा तो मैं राखी किसे बांधूंगी। वरुण ने सब अनसुना कर दिया और हाथ झटककर चला गया तनुश्री के साथ।

तारा का रो रोकर बुरा हाल था, इधर रत्ना भी परेशान थी कि अब वो क्या करे, कैसे समझाए तारा को। तभी रत्ना की सहेली आई अपने बेटे संकल्प के साथ और बोली तारा तू अपने भाई को राखी कब बांधेगी तारा बोली मेरा कोई भाई नहीं है, मैं किसी को राखी नही बांधूंगी। तब संकल्प उठा और बोला दीदी मैं हूं आपका भाई, आप मुझे राखी बांधे, मैं हमेशा आपसे राखी बंधवाऊंगा। तब से आज तक संकल्प हर रक्षाबंधन पर तारा से राखी बंधवाकर अपने भाई होने का फ़र्ज़ निभा रहा है। तारा ने उसके बाद से वरुण को कभी राखी नही बांधी।

Because in the first few months she will have to take special care of himself. Ratna is the third child among five siblings, the family's condition is not that good. Seeing the condition of her maternal home, Ratna did not tell her in - law's things to her mother or sisters. Ratna's husband was suspicious, all the time he used to keep an eye on Ratna that with whom she was talking and laughed looking at whom. Due to these antics and restrictions of her husband. Ratna used to suffocate in her in - laws house. But it was his compulsion to bear everything. Ratna was getting a little irritable due to the month of Sawan and the helplessness of not being able to come to her maternal home. Her husband Akshay did not like this things, but Bashir, who lives in the neighborhood, understand Ratna's condition and used to talk to her and make her laugh. One day, Ratna laughed out loud at something Bashir said, Akshay, without thinking anything, grabbed her hand and pulled her inside. Showered the dirty streets on Ratna, and started beating Ratna by calling her misbehavior. Now Akshay is not even ready to accept that the child growing in Ratna's womb is his. Ratna apologized for all her mistakes and also promised Akshay that after today she will not go anywhere outside the house. But Akshay was not ready to listen, and he slammed the iron bed over Ratna. After doing this Akshay left from there, he was not even bothered about how hurt Ratna might have been. But Ratna's old mother - in - law crying, keeping Ratna's head in her lap and comforting her that everything would be alright. Ratna's whole back was covered in blood, she could not get up. Ratna remained lying on the ground like this all night, her mother - in - law applied ointment kept in the house on her back. So that she can get some rest. By morning Ratna got some relief from the pain. But Akshay's anger had not subsided yet.He again started beating Ratna, the daughter - in - law's condition was no longer being seen by her mother - in - law. The next day Ratna's mother - in - law sent her home early in the morning. Gave Ratna some money and mother - in - law started falling at Ratna's feet wiping her tears saying that she would go to her maternal home. She said forgive me daughter, I could not do anything for you. But you get out of here anyway. Getting drenched in torrential rain, Ratna left from there, but her condition was so bad that she reached the hospital before reaching home. Ratna started fainting in the bus itself, so some passengers of the bus together got her admitted to the hospital.

One of those passengers was from his neighborhood who informed Ratna's house that Ratna was admitted in the hospital. When Ratna's family members immediately reached the hospital, it was found that there was a crack in her spinal cord. Which will take two months to recover. This time Raksha Bandhan was celebrated by Ratna in the hospital. She kept looking at her brother with tearful eyes and while lying down tied a Rakhi on his wrist. After that Ratna's family decided that Ratna would no longer go back to her in - laws house. Ratna also agreed with this as she was troubled by the suspicious behaviour of her husband. Now Ratna has completed nine months, once again she was admitted to the hospital, and Ratna gave birth to a lovely daughter.

The daughter was named Tara. Akshay refused to accept Tara. Ratna was very sad that Tara was neither getting father's love nor name. Well ! Time was passing at its own pace and Tara was now thirteen years old. His aunt's children also live with him at his grandmother's house. In which there is a son Varun and daughter Tanushree. Tara used to tie rakhi to Varun since childhood. There was a lot of love among all the children in the family. The petty squabbling goes on and on. After a while, forgetting everything, the children again started playing and chatting together. But Nowadays Varun and Tara are fighting a lot, sometimes Varun is angry and sometimes Tara.

Now the festival of Rakshabandhan is near, Tara thinks to buy a nice dress for Varun which will remove his displeasure and also end the fight. But Varun misbehaved with Tara beyond limits. On the morning of Raksha Bandhan, both the brothers and sisters got ready to go to their grandparents. Tara cried holding Varun's hand and said pleas brother stop today and leave tomorrow. Today is Raksha Bandhan, if you leave, to whom will I tie Rakhi ? Varun ignored everything and went away with Tanushree.

Tara was in bad condition by crying, while Ratna was also worried as to what to do now, how to explain to Tara. That's why Ratna's friend came with her son Sankalp and said Tara, when will you tie Rakhi to your brother. Tara said I have no brother, I will not tie Rakhi to anyone. Then Sankalp got up and said sister, I am your brother, you tie me a Rakhi, I will always get you tied a rakhi. Since then till today Sankalp is fulfilling the duty of being his brother by tying Rakhi to Tara on every Raksha Bandhan. Tara never tied Rakhi to Varun after that.
