हर ख्वाहिश पूरी हो जाए ये जरूरी नहीं। इंसान स्वभाव से है ही लालची, क्योंकि कभी कुछ ख्वाहिशें आपको बेहतरी का लालच देगी तो कुछ ख्वाहिशें बर्बादी तक पहुंचा देगी। लेकिन हम में इतना लालच होता है कि अच्छे बुरे संकेतों को अनदेखा करके हम सभी जगह अपनी किस्मत को आजमाना चाहते हैं।

ऐसे ही किस्मत से लड़कर जीतने की नाकाम कोशिश की जयश्री ने। उसकी एक ही ख्वाहिश थी कि वो अपनी बड़ी बहन के देवर की दुल्हन बने। इसके लिए उसने हर संभव कोशिश की। जयश्री अपनी कोशिशों में कामयाब हुई या नहीं। "कौन है जयश्री और किसको पाने के लिए इसने अपने आप को आहुति दी" ???

गांव का एक लड़का हमारे पड़ोस में किराए से रहने आया। साथ में उसके पिताजी आए उसे छोड़ने के लिए और मकान मालिक से अनुरोध किए कि वो इस बच्चे को अपने घर का सदस्य समझकर उसका ध्यान रखें। उसके पिताजी ने उस लड़के का नाम सोहन बताए। सोहन यहां पढ़ाई करने आया था। उसे यहां रहते हुए तीन साल का समय बीत गया, अब वो कॉलेज में प्रथम वर्ष का छात्र था। पढ़ाई के साथ साथ सोहन ने काम करना भी शुरू कर दिया, उसने एक कैटरिंग में काम ढूंढ लिया।

अब उससे मिलने गांव से कोई न कोई आता रहता। लेकिन एक चेहरा अब अक्सर नजर आने लगा था सोहन के साथ। वो कोई और नहीं जयश्री थी। सोहन के मकान मालिक अक्सर कहते थे कि वो सोहन के काका की लड़की है। जबकि वो उसकी भाभी की बहन थी, और उनके बीच प्रेम प्रसंग चल रहा था। जयश्री को इस बात का विश्वास था कि सोहन से उसकी शादी में कोई बाधा नहीं आएगी। इसके विपरीत सोहन इस चिंता में रहता था कि घर में बात शुरू कैसे करें, और क्या बताए कि दोनो दो साल से साथ रह रहे हैं।

फिर भी दोनो निश्चिंत होकर मजे से एक दूसरे के साथ रह रहे थे। जयश्री ने सोहन से बात किए बगैर ही शादी के लिए लाल जोड़ा खरीद ली और जब भी गांव से वापस आती थी सोहन के पास वो वही लाल जोड़ा पहनकर पूरी तरह दुल्हन जैसी सजकर सोहन के काम पर से वापस आने का इंतजार करती थी। सोहन ने कभी जयश्री की इस हरकत को गंभीरता से नहीं लिया। वो यही सोचता था कि जयश्री उसे बहुत प्यार करती है इसलिए उसके लिए तैयार होती है। जयश्री सजी संवरी रहती थी और सोहन से पूछती थी कि मैं कैसी दिख रही हूं। जब सोहन खूब तारीफें करने लगता था तो जयश्री बोलती थी, चलो हम मंदिर में जाकर शादी कर लेते हैं। इतना सुनते ही सोहन हंसने लगता था और कहता था कि क्यों मंदिर में हम अकेले क्यों करेंगे शादी। मैं तो तेरे दरवाजे पर बारात लेकर आऊंगा, बहुत धूमधाम से होगी हमारी शादी। जयश्री यही सुनना चाहती थी हर बार, इसलिए वो हर दूसरे दिन दुल्हन की तरह सजती थी।

उसने अब तक कम से कम छह अलग अलग प्रकार के लाल जोड़े ले लिए थे। हमेशा खुश रहने वाली जयश्री आजकल कुछ परेशान सी दिख रही है। बार बार गांव जा रही है, शायद कुछ हुआ है। किसी ने उसके और सोहन के रिश्ते का सच जयश्री के घर बता दिया है, हम सब यही सोच रहे थे! जयश्री कल शाम में गांव से आई है, कुछ उदास दिख रही है, लेकिन फिर भी वो सोहन के आने से पहले तैयार हो गई। जयश्री ने अगले दिन सोहन से काम पर न जाने की बात कही। क्योंकि जयश्री सोहन से कुछ बात करना चाहती थी। कुछ तो था जिस वजह से जयश्री अब ज्यादा ही परेशान लग रही थी।

सुबह उनकी मकान मालकिन की फुसफुसाहट भरी आवाज सुनी कि जयश्री तो दो महीने की गर्भवती है। ये बात खुद जयश्री ने ही बताई, रोते हुए कहने लगी कि अब घर में क्या बताऊं। सोहन के लिए ये कोई नई बात नहीं थी कि जयश्री गर्भवती है। जयश्री अब सोहन पर शादी के लिए दबाव डालने लगी। लेकिन सोहन पहले की तरह इस बार भी जयश्री का गर्भपात कराना चाहता था जिसके लिए जयश्री तैयार नहीं थी। वो अब ज़िद पर अड़ गई कि तुम कुछ भी करो सोहन अब शादी की बात जल्दी करो अपने माता पिता से। सोहन ने कहा ठीक है मैं उचित समय देखकर घर में बात करूंगा। जयश्री इस जवाब से संतुष्ट नहीं थी, क्योंकि ऐसा तो सोहन हर बार कहता है लेकिन आज तक घर में किसी से बात नहीं किया। अपने सच को जयश्री ज्यादा दिनों तक नही छिपा सकती थी।

आज एक बार फिर जयश्री दुल्हन बनकर बैठी है सोहन के इंतजार में। दोपहर हो गई, गर्मी के दिन वैसे भी बहुत आलस के दिन होते हैं। शादियों का समय होने के कारण सोहन ने लगभग सारी रात काम किया और अभी अभी घर पहुंचा है। पड़ोस में अजीब सा सन्नाटा है, लगभग सभी घरों में कूलर की आवाजें आ रही हैं। इसका मतलब ज्यादातर लोग खाना खाकर सो रहे हैं। इधर सोहन भी थका होने के कारण आते ही बिस्तर पर गिर गया और उसकी आंखे लगने लगी। जयश्री उससे बात करने की कोशिश कर रही है। सोहन उनींदा सा हो गया, तो जयश्री को लगा कि वो उसे उपेक्षित कर रहा है।अब जयश्री के सब्र का बांध टूट गया और उसने पास रखे केरोसिन को खुद पर डालकर आग लगा ली, और सोहन को अपनी बांहों में जकड़ ली। सोहन हड़बड़ा गया और जयश्री को देखा तो वो आग की लपटों से घिर चुकी थी। सोहन भी आग की चपेट में आ गया था लेकिन खुद को जैसे तैसे संभालकर जयश्री की आग बुझाने की कोशिश की लेकिन तब तक वो 80% तक जल चुकी थी। जयश्री अब भी लाल जोड़े में ही थी, जो उसके शरीर से कुछ चिपका हुआ था और कुछ पिघलकर जमीन पर टपक रहा था। सोहन ने जयश्री को गोद में उठाया और ऑटो से अस्पताल ले गया, लेकिन दो दिन बाद जयश्री ने दम तोड दी।

जयश्री जलकर मरी थी तो ये पुलिस केस था, इसलिए सोहन के खिलाफ केस दर्ज किया गया था। लेकिन जब जयश्री के आखरी बयान हुए तो जयश्री ने बताई कि उसने खुद ही आग लगाई थी उसे किसी ने नहीं जलाया। जयश्री के बयान के आधार पर सोहन निर्दोष साबित हुआ। जयश्री की ये इच्छा तो पूरी नहीं हो सकी कि वो सोहन की दुल्हन बने, लेकिन उसकी आखरी विदाई लाल जोड़े में की गई।

It is not necessary that every wish should be fulfilled. Human being are greedy by nature, because some desire will lure you for betterment and some desire will lead you to destruction. Bit we are so greedy that ignoring the good and bad signs, we want to try our luck everywhere.

Jayshree unsuccessfully tried to win by fighting with such fate. Her only wish was to become the bride of her elder sister's brother - in - law. For this she tried everything possible. A boy from the village came to live in our neighborhood on tent. Along with his father came to drop him and requested the landlord to take care of this child as a member of his household. His father named the boy as Sohan. Sohan came here to study. Three years have passed since he lived here, now he was a first year student in college. Along with studies, Sohan also started working, he found work in a catering.

Sohan never took this action of Jayshree seriously. He used to think that Jayshree lives him very much and that is why she is ready for him. Jayshree used to be well groomed and used to adk Sohan how I was looking. When Sohan started praising her. Jayshree used to say, let us go to the temple and get married. On hearing this, Sohan started laughing, and asked why we get married alone in the temple. I will bring a wedding procession to your door, our marriage will take place with great pomp and show. Jayshree wanted to hear this every time, so she used to dress up like a bride every other day.

He had taken at least six different types of red pairs so far. Jayshree, who is always happy, is looking a bit worried these days. But like before, Sohan wanted Jayshree to have an abortion this time too, for which Jayshree was not ready. Today once again Jayshree is sitting as a bride waiting for Sohan. It's afternoon, summer days are very lazy days anyway. Since it was wedding time, Sohan worked almost all night and has just reached home. There is a strange silence in the neighborhood, sounds if coolers are coming from almost all the houses, which means most of the people are sleeping after having food. Meanwhile Sohan too, being tried, fell on the bed as soon as he came and started blinking. Jayshree is trying to talk to him. Sohan become sleepy, so Jayshree felt that he was neglecting her. Now Jayshree 's patience broke and she poured kerosene kept nearby and set herself on fire, and held Sohan in her arms. Sohan got nervous and when he saw Jayshree, she was surrounded by flames. Sohan also gotaught in the fire, but somehow managed to control himself and tried to extinguish Jayshree 's fire, but by then she was 80% burnt. Jayshree was still in the red pair, which was partly sticking to her body and partly melting and dripping on the ground.Sohan picked up Jayshree in his lap and took her to the hospital by auto, but two days later Jayshree died.

Jayshree had burnt to death, so it was a police case, hence a case was registered against Sohan. But when Jayshree's last statement was made, Jayshree told that she had set the fire herself and no one lit it. On the basis of Jayshree's statement, Sohan was proved innocent. Jayshree ' wish of becoming Sohan's bride could not be fulfilled, but her last farewell was done in a red pair.
