पित्तरों का पिंडदान कर अपने पूर्वजों से सुख शांति की कामना करते है इन दिनों। आज सुधीर भी अपने माता पिता का श्राद्ध कर रहे है। खूब मेहमानों की आवाजाही है। भिन्न भिन्न प्रकार के पकवानों से सारा मोहल्ला महक रहा है। सुधीर के इस दिखावे से रेणु चाची बहुत दुःखी हैं। क्योंकि वो सुधीर को बचपन से जानती है और उन्हें ये पता है कि बड़े मालिक और मालकिन की मौत की वजह भी सुधीर ही है। इसके लोभ लालच और बुरे व्यवहार ने ही उसके माता पिता की जान ली है।

रेणु चाची अकेली ही बडबडा रही थी कि तुम कितनी भी पूजा करो तुम्हारे पूर्वज तुम्हें कभी आशीर्वाद नही देंगे क्योंकि वो तो बेटियों के हाथों मुक्ति पा चुके होंगे। तुम बस दिखावा ही कर सकते हो। सुधीर खूब वाहवाही लूटना चाह रहे हैं। सुधीर बहुत मृदुभाषी है और अच्छे व्यवहार की वजह से सब उन्हें सम्मान की दृष्टि से देखते है। यहां आए हुए उन्हें अभी दो साल ही हुए है। गांव की जमीन जायदाद बेचकर अब इंदौर में ही रहने का फैसला कर चुके है सुधीर। कौन है सुधीर ? शांति देवी और दुर्गादास जी का इकलौता बेटा है सुधीर। दुर्गादास जी की तीन बेटियां है कमला, सुनीता और मीना। तीन बेटियों के बाद सुधीर का जन्म हुआ था इसलिए सभी उसे बहुत प्यार करते थे। पिता ने बेटी और बेटा में कभी भेदभाव नहीं किए। उन्होंने तीनों बेटियों को खूब पढ़ाए सभी अच्छे पदों पर नौकरी भी करने लगी थी उसके बाद ही उनकी शादियां की गई। सुधीर आगे की पढ़ाई के लिए विदेश जाना चाहता था। दुर्गादास जी ने उसकी इच्छा का सम्मान किए और सुधीर मैनेजमेंट की पढ़ाई के लिए विदेश चला गया। पैसों की कोई कमी नही थी दुर्गादास जी को, वो जमींदार थे। सुधीर की पढ़ाई पूरी हो गई तो अच्छी लड़की देखकर सुधीर की शादी करवा दी। सुधीर की पत्नी अर्चना बहुत नकचढ़ी थी, छोटी सी बात भी उसे बुरी लग जाती थी। फिर वही परिवार में कलह की वजह बन जाती थी।

अर्चना को सबसे ज्यादा गुस्सा रेणु चाची पर आता था। रेणु चाची उनके घर काम करने आती थी। सुधीर जब छोटा सा था तब ही से रेणु चाची उनके घर आती है काम करने। उन्हें सुधीर की देखरेख के लिए ही रखा गया था। बाद में घर के और भी काम रेणु चाची ने संभाल लिए। इसलिए उन्हें कही और जाने नही दिया। अब तक अर्चना और सुधीर दो बच्चों के माता पिता बन चुके है। दुर्गादास जी चाहते हैं कि चारों बच्चों में संपत्ति का बंटवारा कर दिया जाए। जबकि सुधीर बहनों को जायदाद में कोई हिस्सा नहीं देना चाहता था। यही वजह है कि घर में तनाव का माहौल बना रहता है। बड़ी बेटी कमला को जब इस बात की जानकारी हुई तो उसने छोटी बहनों से विचार विमर्श की और माता पिता से मिलकर उन्हें बता दी कि हमें जायदाद में कोई हिस्सा नहीं चाहिए आप सब सुधीर के नाम कर दीजिए। दुर्गादास जी को ये प्रस्ताव स्वीकार नहीं था, लेकिन घर का माहौल और खराब ना हो इसलिए सब सुधीर के नाम कर दिए।

अचानक सुधीर का व्यवहार बदल गया, अब वो मालिक बन चुका था। इस सबके बाद उसने पहले माता पिता को तीर्थयात्रा पर भेज दिया। एक महीने बाद जब दुर्गादास जी और शांति देवी तीर्थयात्रा से वापस आए तो हवेली में बहुत कुछ बदलाव हो चुका था। ये सब देखकर वे हैरान थे, सुधीर ने हवेली से बाहर अपने नाम की तख्ती टंगवा दी थी। ये बदलाव की शुरुआत थी, बड़े मालिक और मालकिन के आने की खबर सुनकर रेणु चाची भागकर आई और मालकिन के हाथ से सामान लेकर कमरे की तरफ जाने लगी तो सुधीर बोला रेणु चाची मां पिताजी का सामान अपने साथ वाले कमरे में रखो। मेरे कुछ मेहमान आ रहे हैं उनके लिए कमरे व्यवस्थित किए हैं।

बेटे से ऐसे व्यवहार की उन्होंने कल्पना भी नहीं की थी। दुर्गादास जी लड़खड़ाते कदमों से नौकरों वाले कमरे में गए और चक्कर खाकर धड़ाम से गिर गए और उन्होंने वहीं अपने प्राण त्याग दिए। पिता की मौत से सुधीर को कोई फर्क नहीं पड़ा था लेकिन शांति देवी पूरी तरह टूट गई। पति की अचानक मौत से शांति देवी को गहरा सदमा लगा और उन्होंने खाना पीना छोड़ दिया। बेटियों ने मां को साथ चलने को कहा लेकिन शांति देवी इसी घर से अपनी अर्थी उठने की बात कहकर सबको चुप कर दी। मजबूर बेटियां रोज मां को मौत के करीब जाता देख बहुत दुखी थी। सुधीर संपत्ति को बेचकर यहां से जाने का मन बना चुका था। वो मां के मरने का इंतजार कर रहा था क्योंकि शांति देवी की जिद थी कि उनकी अर्थी यहीं से उठे। रेणु चाची रात दिन अपनी मालकिन की सेवा कर रही हैं लेकिन उनकी सेहत में कोई सुधार नहीं हो रहा है। शांति देवी अब ठीक नहीं होना चाहती बेटे का बुरा व्यवहार उनके लिए असहनीय था, पति की मृत्यु के बाद उनकी बिगड़ती हालत पर बेटे ने कोई ध्यान नहीं दिया। कल सुबह से ही शांति देवी का शरीर शिथिल पड़ा है कब उनके प्राण पखेरू उड़ जाए पता नहीं। बेटियां सारी रात मां के पास ही रही लेकिन सुबह होते होते शांति देवी ने अपनी अंतिम सांस ली। बेटियों का मायका उजड़ चुका था। मां के अंतिम संस्कार के बाद तीनों बहनें भाई से ये कहकर गई कि माता पिता का श्राद्ध वो कभी भी ना करे। क्योंकि वे सारी जिम्मेदारियां बेटियों को सौंप कर गए हैं। मरने से पहले शांति देवी ये सब बातें बेटियों को कह गई थी।

सुधीर चुपचाप सिर झुकाए खड़ा था, माफी मांगने का अधिकार भी वो खो चुका था। कमला बड़ी थी तो उसने माता पिता के तर्पण की जिम्मेदारी खुद पर ली और छोटी बहनों के साथ वहां से चली गई। आज सुधीर दिखावे के लिए बड़ा आयोजन करता है माता पिता के श्राद्ध का, ताकि कोई ये ना कह सके कि इतने बड़े आदमी होकर माता पिता के श्राद्ध में किसी को नहीं बुलाते। ये समय दिखावे का है, और आडंबर का, लोग हर छोटे आयोजन को बड़ा करके दिखावा करने में विश्वास करते हैं। माता पिता को सम्मान दें। उन्होंने जो आपके लिए किया है उसका मूल्य आप कभी नही चुका सकते। यदि आप उनका ऋण चुकाना चाहते हैं तो उन्हें वो सारी खुशियां दे जिनकी वे आपसे आशा करते हैं। मरणोपरांत आप उनके लिए कुछ भी करो उसका कोई मूल्य नहीं है।

It has only been two years since he came here. Sudhir has now decided to live in Indore after selling his village land and property. Who is Sudhir ? Sudhir is the only son of Shanti Devi and Durgadas ji. Durgadas ji has thre daughters, Kamla, Sunita and Meena. Sudhir was born after three daughters, hence everyone loved him very much. The father never discriminated between daughter and son. He taught all three daughters well and started working at good positions, only after that they got married. Sudhir wanted to go abroad for further studies. Durgadas ji respected his wish and Sudhir went abroad to study management. Durgadas ji had no shortage of money, he was a landlord. When Sudhir completed his studies, he found a good girl and got him married. Sudhir's wife Archana was very picky, even small things made her feel bad. Then that became the cause of discord in the family.

Archana was must angry at aunty Renu. Renu aunty used to come to their house to work. Ever since Sudhir was small child, Renu aunty comes to their house to work. He was kept only yo take care of Sudhir. Later Renu aunty took over other household chores. That's why they weren't allowed to go anywhere else. Till now Archana and Sudhir have become parents of two children. Durgadas ji wants that the property should be devided among the four children. Whereas Sudhir did not want to give any share in the property to the sisters. This is the reason why there is an atmosphere of tension in the house. When the elder daughter Kamla came to know about this, she discussed with the younger sisters and met the parents and told them that we do not want any share in the property, you should give it all in the name of Sudhir. Durgadas ji did not accept this proposal, but so that the atmosphere at home does not get worse, he gave everything in the name of Sudhir.

Suddenly Sudhir's behaviour changed, now he had become the boss. After all this he first sent his parents on pilgrimage. A month later, when Durgadas ji and Shanti Devi returned from the pilgrimage, a lot of changes had taken place in the mansion. They were surprised to see all this, Sudhir had got a plaque with his name hung outside the mansion. This was the beginning of change, after hearing the news of the arrival of the big boss and mistress, Renu aunty came running and started going towards the room taking the things from the mistress's hand, then Sudhir said Renu aunty, keep mother and father's belongings in the room next to you. Rooms have been arranged for some of my guests who are coming.

He had never imagined such behaviour from his son. Durgadas ji went to the servants room with faltering steps and fell down with a thud and gave up his life there, Sudhir was not affected by his father's death but Shanti Devi was completely broken. Shanti Devi was deeply shocked by the sudden death of her husband and she stopped eating and drinking. The daughters asked their mother to accompany them but Shanti Devi silenced everyone by saying that her funeral procession would take place from this house. The helpless daughters were very sad to see their mother getting closer to death every day. Sudhir had made up his mind to sell the property and leave from here. He was waiting for his mother to die because Shanti Devi had insisted that her biet rise from here. Renu aunty is serving her mistress day and night but her health is not improving. Shanti Devi no longer wants to get well, her son's bad behaviour was unbearable for her, the son did not pay attention to her deteriorating condition after the death of her husband. Shanti Devi's body has been lying limp since yesterday morning, it is not known when her life will end. The daughters stayed with their mother the whole night. By morning, Shanti Devi took her last breath. The daughter's maternal home was destroyed. After the funeral of their mother, the three sisters told their brother that he should never perform the Shraddha of their parents. Because he handed over all the responsibilities to his daughters. Before dying, Shanti Devi had told all these things to her daughters.

Sudhir stood silently with his head bowed, he had lost even the right to apologize. When Kamala was older she took upon herself the responsibility of her parents Pind Daan and went away from there with her younger sisters. Today Sudhir organizes a big Shraddha for his parents just to show off so that no one can say that being such a big man, he does not invite anyone to the Shraddha of his parents. This is the time of show off and ostentation, people believe in showing off by making every small event big. Respect your parents you can never repay what they have done for you. If you want to repay their debt then give them all the happiness they expect from you. Whatever you do for them after death, it has no value.
